If you have been in this trade a few years you already know the pattern. You get hired somewhere, and within a month you work out that the job is not really about fixing equipment. It is about hitting a number. There is a board on the wall, there is an average ticket you are expected to make, and the quiet expectation is that you find something to sell on every call.

In practice that means a few things. You diagnose the fault and you tell the customer the truth about it, including when the truth is that they do not need what we sell. You are not asked to talk anybody into a system they do not need. When you are unsure of something, you call and ask instead of guessing, and nobody makes you feel stupid for it.
We are a local company of a size where the owner knows your name and your family. That cuts both ways. There is nowhere to hide a sloppy job, and there is also nobody between you and the person who makes the decisions.
We take on people at a few different stages, and we are usually interested in a good one even when nothing is formally open.
The technical side we can teach. These are the parts we cannot.
Certifications, tickets and experience all help. None of them outweigh the five things above.
