Which Air Conditioning Service Do You Need?

Most people arrive here knowing something is wrong without knowing what to book. There are three jobs and they are not interchangeable.

Something has stopped working. No cold air, weak airflow, ice on the lines, a unit that trips the breaker or will not start. That is air conditioner repair, and it is the one worth calling about today rather than at the weekend, because a system running with low refrigerant or a failing capacitor tends to take the compressor with it.

Nothing is wrong yet. The system works but has not been looked at since it was installed. That is an annual AC tune-up, and it is the cheapest thing on this page by a distance. Most emergency calls in July were a visible fault in April.

It is finished. Past fifteen years, using R-22, failing repeatedly, or costing more each summer to do less. That is a new air conditioner, and it is a decision worth making in spring rather than during the first heatwave.

What an AC Service Call Costs

A service call covers a technician coming out and diagnosing the fault. Repair cost on top depends entirely on what failed: a capacitor is at the bottom of the range, a compressor at the top, and most faults sit closer to the bottom than people fear.

What matters more than the headline number is when you find out. You get the diagnosis, the price, and what happens if you leave it, before anything is touched. Nobody should discover the cost of professional repair from the invoice.

Emergency HVAC repair outside normal hours costs more, which is worth knowing rather than discovering. If the house is uncomfortable but safe, booking the next morning is usually the cheaper call. If anyone in the house is elderly, very young or unwell, do not wait on our account.

Common Air Conditioning Problems and What They Mean

Running constantly but never getting cold. Usually low refrigerant, which means a leak, because refrigerant is not consumed. Topping it up without finding the leak is a temporary fix sold as a repair.

Weak airflow from the vents. Start with the air filter, then the blower, then the ductwork. On a central air system this is as often a duct problem as an AC problem.

Ice on the refrigerant line or the coil. Turn the system off and let it thaw before anyone looks at it. Ice means airflow or refrigerant, and running it while frozen is how a repair becomes a replacement.

The outdoor unit hums but the fan does not spin. Almost always a capacitor. Common, inexpensive, and not something to leave running.

Short cycling. Starting and stopping every few minutes stresses everything. Causes range from a thermostat in direct sun to a badly oversized system, and it is worth diagnosing properly rather than living with.

A smell when it starts. Musty means moisture in the ductwork or a blocked drain. Burning means stop and call.

What to Expect From the HVAC Technician

An air conditioning repair service visit should follow the same shape every time. The technician confirms the symptom, measures rather than assumes, identifies the failed component, and explains it in terms you can act on. Where a system is near the end, you should hear that plainly with the numbers behind it, not a sales pitch.

We service all major brands, carry the parts that fail most, and fix the majority of AC problems on the first visit. Where something has to be ordered, you get a date rather than a shrug.
